Clivia miniata red flowering crosses

The majority of "Red Belgian" and "Belgium Red" clivia are varying shades of orange when grown in a shadehouse or under darker light conditions.  In the garden under filtered light the flowers from these same clivia appear bright orange to almost red, hence names such as "Red Belgian" or "Belgium Red" have evolved.  Real red clivia flower red under shadehouse conditions are are very rare and expensive.  We use a number of dark orange red to red clivias as the pollen parents with the objective of breeding more brilliant flower colours. As these are seed grown the outcomes are not known but only those clivia seedlings with very dark pigmented bases are sold under this category.
