Peach Crosses

The peach crosses we offer here all have unpigmented bases. They are crosses of peach flowering clivia over other peach flowering clivia or over good yellow fowering clivia where the peach is considered to be a double factor peach. Whilst the colour peach is dominant over yellow, intercrossing yellows with peaches can result in yellow flowering clivia and single factor peach flowering clivia.

What is a peach colour? There has been lots of discussion on this topic.  To some, various shades of pastel colours are labelled ‘peach’. We have heard that a true peach is not a pastel but a dilute resulting from an incomplete yellow mutation from orange. We would like to know what the primary colours that makes up “peach” are and what’s the range of the peaches. We know from observations made by some that Chubb's peach is not a light coloured orange or pastel, but a recessive mutation on the same locus as group 1 yellow, meaning that it is actually an incomplete yellow mutation. Chubb's peach behaves in the same way as a yellow mutation except that it is dominant over group 1 yellow.

By purchasing unpigmented based seedlings, a level of risk has been removed.  Double factor peaches can produce pigmented seedlings when crossed over other double factor peaches and these pigmented seedlings usually flower orange or pastel.

Set our below is a small picture of some of our flowering peaches.

Clivia, Peach Crosses - 3 to 4 leaves

Clivia, Peach Crosses - 3 to 4 leaves

Peach flowering clivias are a relatively new cultivar and flowering size plants are difficult and expensive to obtain.  Unfortunately some people call their clivia peach when in actual fact the flower is pastel and crosses from these plants tend to have pigmented bases and do not flower peach.  Our peach flowering stock plants have been bred from well known international breeders.  The seedlings offered are a mixture of crosses with peaches (peaches over peaches and over yellows).  All these seedlings have unpigmented bases and will flower either peach or yellow. Given that peach is dominant over yellow it is expected that on average more than 50% will flower peach.   In the creation of these seedlings we have only used pollens from our best plants.
