Bulbs, Exotics and Grasses > Bromeliad

Bromeliads are becoming increasingly popular as they are an easy no nonsense plant to grow and can have attractive foliage and flowers. They are related to the pineapple family. They can be planted as feature plants in the garden and a number of cultivars grow well in full sun. They are make an attractive container plant - if planting in a container it is recommended that a well draining mix be used, for example, an orchid mix with added shell chita and pumice.  If planting in a garden ensure that the mix is free draining, for example, a raised garden bed with added bark and sand.

The flowering season is different for every species and there are different bromeliads in flower every month of the year so you can plan your garden to have colour all year round. Flowers can last for many months.
