Hippeastrum This old favourite is also suitable for warm climates. Once established they need little care and can be left for years undisturbed. They should be kept dry during Winter and moist from late Spring. If left moist over Winter the foliage does not die back and flowering the following Summer is reduced. The bulbs should be planted with their necks above above the soil and prefer a rich well drained soil which contains plenty of humus. They flower from late Spring at about the same time as the leaves appear.
