Cream clivias, often referred to as yellow clivias, are very popular. Colours can range from pale cream to a rich golden colour. Dark yellow flowering clivias are difficult to secure. The elusive white flowering clivia does not exist and if it can be developed, the experts say that it will not be derived from cream clivias. The newer versions of cream clivias are usually more vigorous than the older types with many capable of flowering within three to four years. This is because clivia typically flower when they have 12 to 14 leaves. The price of cream clivias has come down considerably and are now at a level which makes it possible to plant them on mass in shaded garden areas. We have a large genetic base of Group 1 cream clivia plants secured from well known breeders from Australia, Belgium, Japan, South Africa and the USA. We take pride in the cream clivias we breed and only use pollen from the best flowering creams in our breeding program. Cultivars we will release in coming years include variegated creams and broad leaf creams. The pictures below illustrate the variety in flowering types. These clivia are owned by us and are part of our breeding program. All cream clivia sold under this category are Group 1, have unpigmented bases (often referred to as green bases) and will flower cream/yellow.
These clivia were bred by us from quality flowering yellow clivia. We extensively use Vico Yellow x Vico Gold, Best Yellow x Vico Yellow, Vico Yellow x self and Good Yellow x Vico Yellow as the pollen parent over our exquisite collection of yellow flowering clivia. The aim is to breed bigger and bolder yellow flowers suited to Australian conditions. These clivia are one year old with strap like foliage and have two to four leaves. This is a cross between a good yellow flowering clivia and a Nakamura (Dark Yellow x Variegated Yellow) (pictured). These seedlings have unpigmented bases and are guaranteed to be yellow flowering. They are about 2 years old and have five leaves. Like all seed grown clivia the resulting flower shapes and sizes will vary. The quantity of seedlings available is very limited.
