Clivia, Miniata

Our clivia collection is one of the largest in Australia and originated from selective purchase of seed from from well known clivia breeders from Belgium, China, South Africa and the United States. If you are interested in growing clivias, like some regular tips on what to do and when, want early notice on the availability of new cultivars, an opportunity to purchase clivias actually in bud or in flower then why not subscribe to our email newsletter, Its all about clivia!

Clivia miniata now come in a range of colours, including, cream, green, near white, lime, orange, pastel, peach, pink, red, salmon, yellow and dark yellow. Some cultivars have multipetal flowers with up to 12 petals per flower. Some can have strong green centres that do not fade when the flowers age. Newer cultivars include particolour and watercolour flower types.

Clivia generally flower when they have 12 to 14 leaves. This usually occurs in 3 to 4 years. However, there are some exceptions:

  • the "old" Aurea (yellow) cultivars;
  • multipetal flowering clivia;
  • peaches based on Aurea;
  • reds; and
  • variegated types.

They grow well outdoors in a mild frost free climate.  Plant in the shade or part shade on mass for best flowering results.  They prefer being planted in a well drained soil.  Keep relatively dry in Winter and increase water in Spring and Summer.
